The Australian government is warning that it will no longer be able to supply Viagra, which contains the active ingredient sildenafil, to anyone who is allergic to it.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced this week that it was dropping the supply of the little blue pill to anyone with a heart condition.
Viagra is the most common type of erectile dysfunction drug available in Australia, with some patients experiencing side effects such as flushing, headaches, and blurred vision.
In an online survey by Medscape TV, which is funded by Health Minister Julia LoFonnach, most of the people surveyed said they had never taken Viagra and had never had problems with heart problems.
However, the survey found that more men in their 20s and 30s had tried it before, and they had a higher chance of experiencing side effects such as chest pain or swelling.
The study found that of those who took sildenafil, about half reported having an erection that lasted more than 4 hours.
The study, published in the March issue of the British Journal of Cardiology, did not find any significant differences in how often patients took Viagra.
